Lyon's Eco of Hope team joined up with 22 other teams to kick off the 2010 Saint Baldrick's Shave-a-thon in Naperville, IL. Currently the event has raised $98,050 for childhood cancer research (the final total is still being calculated). Lyon's Eco of Hope team currently has raised $8,735 for the event.
The event began with cancer survivors and their families speaking out on successfully battling pediatric cancer. While other families of cancer victims honored the memory of their family member. They all encouraged people to team up to conquer childhood cancer so no other family will feel the pain and anguish they have gone through.
It was truly a loving and memorable event and will last in the minds of all participants! Many participants and family members have commented that the 2010 Saint Baldrick’s Naperville, IL event was the biggest ever!

America’s Storage Solutions Expert helps America’s Team store and organize their rescue gear and vehicles. Lyon sales representative Larry Meyers & the Grainger sales representative Donna Montgomery worked with the City of Arlington and the Dallas Cowboys to provide the best storage solution for fire & police gear, rescue gear and vehicles.
Originally the City of Arlington has specified an integrated system of bulk storage racking and 8000 Series shelving. However, after taking measurements of the workspace Larry recommended installing a mezanine to go vertical and maximize their workspace.
The final storage solution is a system of mezzanine, bulk storage racking and 8000 Series shelving. Dallas Stadium nearly doubled their storage footprint while maximzing their work space!

Lyon engineering has implemented an immediate design change to the 8000 Series shelving backs, designing horizontal back panels versus the original vertical back panels. The horizontal (panel) backs will provide easier handling and installation for the user, versus the long vertical panels which were difficult to hold in place and install the backing screws.
New Horizontal Back Panel Original Vertical Back Panel

The new horizontal back panels are as strong as the original vertical panels, the overall load capacities will continue to be the same. Click here for the load capacities of the 8000 Series shelving.
From the freight and shipping aspect, the new horizontal (panel) backs will cost less to ship due to the more compact shipping foot print versus the original vertical and oversized back panels.
This back panel transition has taken effect and the new (horizontal) back panels are currently shipping. Continue to use the existing Lyon product numbers to order 8000 Series shelves and the new back panels will be delivered. Click here for the instruction sheet on installation details.
Someday there will be a revolutionary material that will replace cold rolled steel as the best material for manufacturing lockers. Maybe carbon nanotubes but plastic is not that revolutionary material. Common plastics used for lockers are HDPE (high-density polyethylene) and Phenolic. Plastic locker manufactures have effectively promoted their products by playing on the bad experiences with lockers manufactured before contemporary technology. It is comparable to claiming a 2009 automobile will suffer the same short term resistance to corrosion that a 1970’s car suffered. The same advancements that prolong the corrosion resistance of today’s cars have been adapted to Lyon steel lockers.
The truth about plastic lockers is that they are 2 to 3 times the cost of metal lockers, are not as secure and have limited options. The original plastic locker designs used all plastic parts. After many years of locker users destroying the plastic hinges and plastic latches, the plastic locker designers added hinges and latches formed from metal. They obviously realized the need for the strength of metal. Most fire codes limit the type and quantity of plastics in public buildings, such as schools, due to flame spread and toxic fume concerns. UV exposure and sharp objects can damage most plastics and surface damage is permanent.
Lyon’s steel lockers utilize Galvannealed steel and Powder Coat to resist corrosion. Galvannealed steel is cold rolled steel with a mill applied Zinc coating. Steel lockers can be made using Galvannealed as the base material. If the top coat is damaged or penetrated by moisture, the Zinc coating protects the underlying steel from corrosion through Galvanic action. The liquid paints used on lockers before the conversion to Powder Coat could be broken down by most chemicals especially Chlorine. Once the paint was compromised moisture could easily reach the steel. Lyon’s standard Powder Coat provides a very durable coating and is not affected by common chemicals including Chlorine. It also provides dry film thicknesses in excess of 1.5 mils which prevents moisture penetration.
Once the misconceptions are dispelled, Lyon Workspace steel lockers are clearly the best choice for all locker applications.
Michigan City, IN- Lyon Workspace Products-Michigan City, the factory which makes the 8000 Series Shelving and the bulk storage racking, has just installed a paint reclaim system on their paint line. This newly installed system reclaims the unused paint and collects it to use again for future painting.
The old system collected the unused paint and stored it in barrels. When full, the barrels were baked to harden the paint. The hardened blocks of paint were thrown in the trash and then shipped to a landfill where they take centuries to break down.
Lyon is committed to developing products and programs that positively impact the environment. Whether the goal is creating a healthier environment, lowering operating costs, reducing emissions or maintaining an environmentally-friendly product delivery system, Lyon is the industry leader in green initiatives.

Up to three times the break-in protection versus the competitive latching systems. Locker break-in theft and ownership of small expensive personal items are both on the rise. Lyon engineers have also risen to the challenge of 21st century locker protection. Lyon Workspace Products announces its patent pending nano metal roller with Zamack 3 latching system. This innovative system provided up to three times the break-in protection versus the competitive latching systems. The metal used for the nano roller is the same metal alloy as auto transmission gears.

Lyon lockers and storage products get “Made” on Discovery Channel’s “How Stuff Gets Made”. Lockers, modular drawer cabinets and all-welded storage cabinets are expected to be filmed this fall.
Discovery Channel’s popular, long-running series, “How It’s Made,” under the new working title of “How Stuff Gets Made” has reached out to Lyon Workspace Products in regards to filming Lyon steel lockers, modular drawer cabinets and all-welded storage cabinets.
“How Stuff Gets Made” reveals the extraordinary origins of everyday products (or the components of everyday products) by following their creation in a factory from start-to-finish. Each 30-minute episode features four unique items with emphasis on the machines, assembly lines, technology and processes that transform raw materials into the objects our viewers see, touch, use and rely upon every day. The machines are the stars of the show and the processes drive the storylines. The goal is to give viewers a new appreciation for the hard work, innovation, automation, and mass production behind familiar and, at times, not-so-familiar things.
Lyon lockers have a long resume of cameo appearances on the big or small screen. In the opening scenes of The Breakfast Club, an 80’s classic, uses red Lyon steel lockers. On this season’s American Idol, Kansas City audition, during the interview of Jessica Furney (pictured left) there are red Lyon steel lockers!
