Steel Warehouse Shelving Reaches New Heights
All warehouses begin the same – as one big empty box. To get this warehouse going it’ll need to be filled with the product or materials needed to run the business. But finding the best way to store such items can seem like a daunting task. What if the available space is rather small? Or what if it’s a large space, but walking the entire stretch of the building to pick items or materials is taking way too much time? Make way for Lyon’s two level steel warehouse shelving! This commercial grade shelving helps to take advantage of the vertical space in this warehouse.
Many warehouses these days have a ceiling height of 32 feet clear, sometimes more. Even twenty years ago the average ceiling height for a warehouse was 25 feet clear. Even if a 12 foot shelving unit is used, there is still twice as much space available overhead. Utilizing floor to ceiling industrial shelving both reduces your storage footprint and increases efficiency.
Steel Warehouse Shelving Transforms the Space
For this project, Lyon combined our closed shelving with a deck over. Adding commercial warehouse shelving units is a great option for small parts and products. These 96-inch high uprights combined to offer 16 feet of storage while still allowing plenty of ceiling clearance for fire safety. Closed uprights and backs help prevent items from being accidentally pushed off of the shelving unit. Easily reposition, add, or remove the fully adjustable shelves when the size of stored items needs to be changed.
Creating back-to-back rows maximizes the available storage space. The mesh deck over provides a sturdy standing area while also allowing light to penetrate through to the areas below. The added handrails and guardrails help keep your employees safe in the lofted area of the steel shelving. By using the available vertical space and extending the steel shelving up, more warehouse room is available below to add bulk storage racks for storing larger items. With more available floor space, there is even room left over to create loading and unloading areas.
Keeping it Organized
It’s not enough to be able to store twice as much if you can’t find what you’re looking for. Organization is key to an efficient picking system. Labels on the shelves ensure the items get put in the correct place. A good labeling system also helps make it more obvious when stock is low and needs to be reordered. For extra small parts, plastic shelf bins were added. These warehouse bins keep the smaller items grouped together and prevent them from getting pushed around or lost on the steel shelving. These yellow bins also nest inside each other when not in use to maximize the available space.
